Basics Of Ecommerce

I am an ecommerce entrepreneur dedicated to sharing knowledge and resources related to online retailing. This site reflects the experiences of myself, and my readers.   I hope and encourage interaction in order to ultimately turn this website into a “hub” or “community” of ecommerce entrepreneurs so that we may all learn and help each other.

Here is some information about me and the site:

My name is Steve Carmichael. I am 40 years old, and reside in Lewis Center Ohio.  I did not get rich by selling online, but I do make a very good income with it.  It has taken me years of learning the hard way, working hard, and trying many things that failed, until I found out what works best for me.  I constantly seek those that do what I do, but do it  better so that I can learn from them. It has made a world of difference.

I have:

-  10 years of experience selling products online by running my own websites as well as third party platforms such as Amazon and eBay.  I have run, or currently run several niche stores selling general sporting goods, rugged outdoor gear (hiking, camping, etc),  flying gadgets and toys, GPS systems, landscaping supplies, college textbooks, backyard games, gift items, and fitness and exercise gear.

-  10 years of traditional retail management experience in a large retail chain (Meijer Inc)

-  12 years of I.T experience in financial services doing product development and systems integration.  I have worked with companies such as:   HP, Chase, Huntington National Bank. I have a significant banking background in ACH (Automated Clearing House) and Payment Processing (checks, credit cards, etc)

I recently started writing a book, as well as speaking on the topic.  More information on that can be found throughout the website as dates are made available.  All the information on this site is free.  It reflects my personal experiences or information I have found interesting.  There are a few advertisements/recommendations on the site to help cover hosting, the occasional web development cost, etc… but the purpose of this site is NOT to make money through it, itself, but rather learn from others as much as I hope others learn from me that can translate into my other businesses.  This site is not my business, but it does complement my other businesses.  You won’t find me shoving products at you or spamming your email.  I do ask that you sign up for my monthly newsletter where I provide additional information regarding online retailing.  I set aside separate content for my newsletters, not found on this site. And I always respect your privacy.

This site is a glimpse into the way I operate my stores.  I know how hard it is to get started in e-commerce and keep up with the industry. I know that mistakes can be costly and in some cases even cost you your business. I know that having a business model that is profitable from the beginning is important and critical to long term success.

And that is why I have created a site dedicated to online retailing. This industry can be tough and competition can be fierce. Having a solid foundation to build your business on is critical. I hope this site helps you with your business.
