E-Commerce Advertisements: Choosing Relevant Ads for Your Site
In an age where (online) content is king and site image reigns as co-regent, it’s important to also give some thought to the ads you place on your site. You may be using AdSense, which does some of the work here for you, but I’m talking about your affiliate program ads. Do they fit your site?
It goes without saying that if you primarily sell electronics, you don’t want to place a bunch of ads for clothing on your site (unless they somehow relate to electronics, which isn’t very likely). However, you must also take care with ads that are relevant to your site. You wouldn’t want to put up an ad for your top competitor or for a site that appears ‘scammy’, either. Know what it is you’re helping to promote.
A good rule of thumb here is to choose ads that fit your content and add to its value, rather than detract from it. If you sell handmade paper, for instance, it would be a wise move to place ads for scrapbooking designs, high-quality pens or decorative rubber stamps. Get creative! Finding what works best for you could have you seeing more revenue.
