E-Commerce Basics: Getting Things Done When Your Task List Is Long
When running an e-commerce business, the workload never seems to let up. In the beginning, there is so much to do, and you can never become complacent as your competitor’s won’t. As you start making sales, you must meet the demands of your business yet continue to market for more. It is a constant struggle.
Here are some tips for getting things done:
1. Prioritize – Its sounds like common sense and it is. But many struggle to follow through with their priorities. Its so easy to get distracted on less important things.
2. Automate Repetitive Tasks – The best place to start looking for automation is in your shopping cart import/export functionality and your accounting/inventory system. Automation in these areas have given my the most bang for my buck.
3. Capture Information and Make Quick Decisions – Think about what is holding you up in making a decision and then go get that information. Lack of decision-making can paralyze your business. Take risks, but do so with informed decisions.
4. Accept that some things just won’t get done – This is probably the hardest for me to do. But the reality is that no one ever gets everything done. Concentrate on what you have prioritized and stay laser focused on whats important. Do that, and the important things will get done.
