E-Commerce Book Review: eCommerce Best Practices – How to market, sell, and service customers with internet technologies
eCommerce Best Practices – How to market, sell, and service customers with internet technologies ~ Thomas M McFadyen, 2008
I purchased this book from Amazon about a month ago, and spent a good week going through it and underlining content, making notes, and trying to get as much information out of it as I could. This book makes a great reference book for established small and mid-size online business owners. While some sections, are applicable to beginners, this book is best for those with some experience.
| The main thing I likes about the book is that it provides introductory coverage of more advanced topics. It focuses on best practices, but unfortunately it does not go into enough detail in all cases to implement them.
However, there is enough content here, to get the “basics” of these advanced topics, as well as ideas for implementing the strategies. Some strategies will require further research though as some topics were just glossed over. Probably because those strategies requires much, much more coverage than could be done in one book. Most e-Commerce books on the web are too basics, or too complex. This fits right in the middle. The book is authored by Thomas M McFadyen, who is president of McFadyen Solutions. His company has implemented some of the largest eCommerce solutions. He is also clear on one thing, and one that I also try to convey in our own website’s message and that is this: Anybody can set up a store and a shopping cart. Especially with today’s low-cost solutions. But real-world eCommerce is much more complex. This book will help break down the complexities, and show you a path to follow. |

It sounds like a good book. I agree that many simply gloss over the basics but find that typically creates for you your list of what to look into next.
