E-Commerce Success: Go Beyond Selling Products For Maximum Success
So you put up your site, and you are now fully engaged in the day to day activities of an e-commerce entrepreneur. Great! You have gotten further than most people ever do. But don’t stop there. As websites become more sophisticated and customers start to expect more, it is even more important to grow and feed your site. Static (unchanging) websites no longer succeed in this market.
Each new day should be focused with new activity that builds and nurtures your site. One thing I try to do is “personally” make at least one site improvement a day. I try to do more, but even if I only get to one it adds to the site value over time. I try to add value above and beyond just product listings. Sure, I try to constantly improve my product detail pages rather than use the vendor’s “default” descriptions, but I really try to focus on those extras on the site.
Its no longer good enough to just list products. Customers are looking for information such as how-to’s, reviews, articles, blogs, forums, etc. and if they can find this extra information on your site, so much the better. Most customers will not just come to your site and make an instant buying decision. Most will seek and gather information to support their buying decision from a number of sites. Having as much of that information on your site as you can will decrease the odds that they will visit your competitor’s site and possibly buy from them. The days of the plain old product catalogue is over. You must go above and beyond that and provide needed information to your customers to help them complete their buying decision so you can increase your conversion rates.
